Modem and TCP/IP

Please excuse if this is a stupid question but..
My Win98 PC is taking around 5mins to boot and after
performing a logged boot I've noticed the following 2
entries:
22.22 Starting TCP/IP (Network\MSTCP\0001)
60.72 Starting TCP/IP (Network\MSTCP\0001)

My PC only has a modem for connection to the internet - No
Ethernet card, although it used to have one. - WHat I
would like to know is if the entries above should still be
there or should they be removed? If they have to be
removed, can anyone tell me how to do it?

TCP/IP is required in order to establish a connecting to
the Internet from your Modem connection.

From what you are stating, it seems to have two devices
using TCP/IP, one of them would be the Dial-Up Adapter and
the second one could some sort of VPN and or Dial-Up
Adapter 2. Also, If you use AOL, AOL creates a Dial-Up
Adapter VPN connection as well. In which case it will be
needed if you use AOL.

I dont believe that is the reason why your machine is
taking a long time to reboot.

What are the specs to your machine?

Pc is PII (333Mhz) 196MB 20GBHDD.
I think one problem might be it was an ex-work pc and I
don't know the full history.
I performed a logged boot but wasn't able to make much
sense of the info. I've attached it below in th ehope that
