The IP address of the base station is 172.16.0.1 and the
IP address of the ethernet-connected computer is
172.16.0.159.

When opening Internet Explorer and going to
http://172.16.0.1 the management tool is always
immediately available from any computer on the network.

I suppose I should ask what OS is on the wired computer.
And can you confirm you CAN browse the internet and see other
computers on your LAN.

While it shouldn't have anything to do with changing to 172.16.x.x, I
don't want to rule that out. I know it works ok with 192.168.1.x, but
never personally tried the 172.16... I recall a long time ago some
issues when the default class wasn't used, but that was so long ago I
don't remember the details.

What happens if you power cycle the 700 and then try the wired
computer before any wireless clients are connected/associated?

1. Four things regarding the wired computer while
MBNUtility still did not provide access to Management
Tool:

* The OS on all computers is Windows XP.

* Yes it has always been possible to browse the
internet and see other computers on the LAN from any
computer.

* With 192.168.1.x or other IP addresses and/or
with DHCP enabled, the problem persists.

* If the the MN700 is power cycled and the wired
computer is tried before any wireless clients are
connected/associated, the problem persists.

2. Other information:

By chance, I've just noticed that With Norton Antivirus
Auto Protect disabled the problem disappears--the
Management Tool is now always available from the Tools
menu of the MBNUtility. Only the wired computer is
affected in this way.

Interesting observation. I don't run Norton so I don't know what
optional settings are available that may let you continue to run this
and still have access from the BNU. Have yo tried asking the Symantec
folks about this?

I don't run the BNU myself on any of my XP machines. I've taken it out
of the start up group. I use the web browser to access the admin tool
on the base station.

Changing Norton optional settings didn't help.

I haven't asked Symantec about this.

Using the web browser to access the base station works
well.

Thank you for your responses and suggestions.
