For anyone having similar problems with their MN700
or MN730 w/win98SE and XP
Got 3 computers in the house:
win98SE - hooked up to the MN700 by ethernet cable
and 2 winXP's upstairs by the wireless MN730's
ISP: Comcast
Went to system hardware and deleted any unused
networking devices on the win98SE.
Had no firewalls.... so i just disabled the antivirus program.
Set up the MN700 from the manuals instruction until i got
something like a "cannot connect to the internet" box with
a circled red 'X'
I pulled the modems power cord from the socket for about
3 minutes, then put it back in.
Went to 'run' and typed in: winipcfg
selected my adapter and it came up with different protocals
than the base stations 192.whatever.
Clicked 'remove all', then 'renew all'... and it went into the base
stations number.
The software detected it and continued with the setup until finished.
Chose NONE for wireless security because i figured i could
always put the keys in later after i set up the wireless adapters
if i ever felt i needed it.
DID NOT use the manuals software instructions for setting
up the MN730's.
Just put the wireless adapters in, started the PC, let New
Hardware detect, and put in the CD when prompted (drivers).
Continued with the software for the floppy settings save, the
wireless detection.... and let it make a bridge.
No connection until i went into 'Network Connections' and deleted
any unused adapters AND the bridge, and then right clicked
the little network icon (right taskbar), selected:
'View Available Wireless Networks', clicked the name and
check marked the 'allow me to connect' box.
BOOM!.... it all went in fine, has been working fine so far
(one month - knock on wood), can file and print share at
top speeds with no problems. Same with internet.
90% of the time at 54mbps and never below 36.
No glitches so far..... none!
