using old mn500 on new computer and I am unable to
program the base station. It only advises to shut off any
firewall or internet protection programs and to reset
base station. I have done both and retried many times.
About to pitch it and buy something new.

Hi,

Have you tried opening up your Internet Explorer and opening up
http://192.168.2.1 to get the Base Station Management Tool?

Are you running any third-party anti-virus program, like one from Symantec?
That could block it, just as a software firewall like ZoneAlarm will.
Disregard the wizard and go into your browser and type in the 192.168.2.1
default address. Use the default "admin" without the quotes for the
password, unless you've already programmed it otherwise. If you previously
programmed the base station, it should still have the settings.

In general you shouldn't need to change the settings on
the MN500 for the new computer. You only need to
configure the new computer as an additional computer to
use the base station and it will get all functionality.

If you have ZoneAlarm, Norton, etc. you need to
*uninstall* them to be able to reinstall the MN500 CD and
not just disable them. You can reinstall them afterwards.
Also disable the Windows built-in firewall (ICF) -- it's
on the second tab of the network properties (under
Network Connections).
