I have MN-500 base and Media center 2005 PC. Will I be
able to use MN 500 to 'connect' to media extender box?.

The reason I am asking is that extender box supports
only 'a' and 'g' where as MN500 is 'b'. Will I be able to
upgrade MN500 firmware to support 'a' or 'g' protocol?.

Thanks.

The MN500 is not upgradable. You will need to purchase 802.11a or
802.11g hardware.
