Check for virus or malware on the computer. You could
also have a critical failure and the system rebooted, or
a power failure too short for shutting down the computer
but sufficient to have a CPU reset.
The MAC address: on some cards we can enter whatever MAC
address we want, or fake MAC addresses directly into IP
frames (and we can also fake the calling IP)...
