MN-820 Power Supply

Hiya!

I recently bought the MN-820 and finally set it up
yesterday, but after two hours of it being active, the
base station just switched off and the network completely
failed. I tried it in other sockets and the power supply
just wouldn't work (I hope it hasn't affected the base
station). Has anyone experienced such a problem, and if
so what did you do about it? I spoke to Microsoft who
sent me a brand new package but thats not going to come
for another 4-6 weeks becuase they don't have any in
stock. The other catch is, I live in the UK so we have a
240V supply. Before i attached the MS router, I got a
transformer which did its job, however when I had
connected the power supply it became really hot. At first
I didn't think to take it out because I was told this is
normal until all of a sudden the system crashed. So, has
anyone experienced this? Has anyone used this product
with a different voltage internationally? More
importantly is there a good transformer I can get or a
power supply that's input is 240V?

PLEASE HELP!!!

If you can find an power transformer that has the correct voltage, amperage,
connector size, and polarity at your local electronics store, you might be
able to use it to get by until the replacement arrives. Check the old
transformer and the base station itself for the requisite details.

Would you be able to recommend one because I bought the
one at the following link and it just did not work, and
after browsing the forums I found it didn't work with
someone else down here:

SC5329/2W:
http://www.tacima.com/tacima_products.html#stepdown1

Please help me because I've paid a lot for all this
equipment and I'd hate to move to a Linksys router when
I've seen (only for two hours...haha) how good MS are at
this. What one would be suitable at
voltageconvertors.com...there must be one transformer
that will work! What's connector size and polarity? Where
can I find out who has it?

THANKS & PLEASE HELP!

I'm referring to the "wall-wart" transformer that connects from the
electrical outlet to the MN-700 base station. You might be able to find
something at a local or online electronics store that would effectively
replace it.

Unfortunately I don't have one of the UK base stations in front of me and I
don't recall the output voltage, amperage, etc.

Thing is, I can't seem to find it anywhere around here
and I'm completely in the blue as to what to get. The
following are the specs on the plug:

FOXLINK
AC ADAPTOR
CLASS 2 TRANSFORMER
ITE LPS
MODEL NO.: FA-4A110
INPUT: 120VAC 60Hz 21W
OUTPUT: 12VDC 1000mA

-....+ (some symbol at the end)

Anyway, with these specifications would anyone be able to
help me because they don't sell Microsoft Broadband
Networking equipment in the UK...I had to buy it in
America and I'm desperate to set it up. Can anyone
suggest a site, an actual transformer or plug that would
be suitable? PLEASE?! Thanks!

You should be able to get one at a Radio Shack (They are still in the UK
aren't they?)

Any power supply that outputs 12VDC 1000mA and the indicated polarity should
do the trick. If you are unsure, take the router and the current power
supply with you.

If they don't have one, they should at least be able to tell you where you
can get one.

There is **no** UK version of the MN-700 base station. Suggest you check
internally with the folks in the Broadband Hardware Networking group at
MSFT.

Let me try to interpret for you...

FoxLink makes the adapter. It converts alternating current (AC) from the
wall to the direct current (DC) the base station (MN-700) uses. It expects
input of 120Volts (V) @ 60Hertz (Hz). I think the UK uses 240V @ 50Hz
(somebody please correct me on this if it's wrong).

The adapter outputs 12V DC @ 1Ampere (A). To prevent burning out the
replacement adapter, you'll need something that'll step down the UK wall
current to US wall current, then plug the replacement adapter into that
device.

The other symbol indicates the polarity (whether the inside or outside of
the plug is positive or negative DC voltage). Any alternative adapter will
need to use the same polarity configuration or the base station might be
damaged.

If you can find an adapter that converts directly from UK current to 12V DC
at a sustained rate of 1A, and that uses the same connector and polarity,
you might be able to connect it directly. Here in the US, companies such as
RadioShack often have generic, multi-voltage, multi-polarity, multi-plug
size AC to DC transformers that might work.

Not to scare you, but if you'd previously connected the FoxLink adapter into
the wall with a simple plug converter, you might have burned out both
adapter AND the base station. But if I were in your situation, I'd try an
alternate AC to DC converter first.

How can I describe the polarity and the other information
(know about mA and VDC) to someone, and also how can I
describe the yellow tip of the plug that plugs into the
base station? It's proving very difficult, especially
over the web. Is there a special name for this particular
output port? Thanks!

What about this from radioshack?

http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%
5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F009%5F001%5F001 %
5F002&product%5Fid=273%2D1687

Will this do the trick?????
