Hi everyone,
I hope this is where I can get some help. I already tried
the outsourced MS Customer Support to no avail. OY!
I'm trying to hook up the MN-740 with my Xbox, to my
network.
It connects fine with a network named Netgear. The
problem is I have a Linksys WRT54GS so I think I'm using
someone elses signal. I see my network on the Xbox
dashboard, but when I try to connect, it tells me check
that router is on... etc.
I tried putting the WEP key that works on my Laptop but I
get the same message.
Wierd thing, I was in the setup page for my Linksys and I
had added the MAC for the MN-740 and while the Xbox is
trying to connect, it shows the 740 MAC as an "active PC"
in the Clients Hostname along with my laptop, but then it
dosent connect and then goes to "inactive pc". Hope I am
explaing this right and I can get this figured out.
Is there a way to get into the MN 740 to set it up like
192.168.1.x? Is there an IP address for the MN-740?
Thanks in advance for any help
Danny

In the Dashboard, make sure you're using Infrastructure for the type of
connection, and give the MN-740 a static IP, with the 192.168.1.* address of
your router as the Gateway. Also give it the DNS numbers for your Internet
connection.

I would also suggest you change the default name of your base station/router
to something unique for your own LAN, and move the channel away from the
default.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for answering. I do have it set to infrastructure.
To give the MN-740 a static IP, I do that in the
Dashboard settings too? Example: 192.168.1.9 DNS
167.206.3.xxx under network settings...?
I already have changed the name of my network thats
unique... it's Bite Me lol so I know, thats why I'm sure
I'm picking up someone else's signal. I will try you
advice and get back to you. Thanks again for your help....

Ok Chris,
I tried entering these settings,
Manual IP Address, 192.168.1.8
Manual DNS Servers... 167.206.3.xxx and a second one,
it went to connect and said more than one network
detected, I said yes to connect, there was Bite Me (my
network), linksys, and Netgear. Hit Bite Me, typed in the
WEP, 64 bit (all caps cause that's set on my router, even
tried lower case) and got that message again. I am lost
here trying to figure it out...
I have the MAC addy of the MN 740 in my router so that
should be good.... and I forgot to metion, the router is
also set to channel 11.
It's so confusing to me because I can connect with that
Netgear network but it just won't connect to mine!!!
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreatiated

Hmmm. Wonder if the other network is on Channel 11 also? Since making the
changes, have you shut down your LAN and then restarted it? Sometimes we
need to bring up the modem, then the base station/router and then the
adapters. Have you tried Channel 1? Have you tried the Troubleshooter in
the Dashboard?

Yes, the "Netgear" network is on channel 11 as well. You
think I need to restart the modem, router and adapter,
because it does connect to that phantom network fine. I
havent tried any other channels yet.
I keep reading that people hook these adaters up, with
WEP, with no problems.... I can't call those outsourced
people anymore either, they just get me more frustrated.
It is funny how it is showing up when trying to connect
on my linksys set up page on the MAC filter, and it does
connect and work on the other network, so I know it's not
defective. Well, let me try and see if I reset the modem
and stuff.
Thanks again Chris

Yup, sorry it isn't "just working." Mine has and does. I really suspect
you're getting too much interference from the other LAN, but restarting the
whole system may get things straightened out - especially with a channel
change. Go to 1, and see how it works.
