I have a MN-740 but I dont have an XBox or the setup CD.
Can I use it as a wireless access point on my PC network?
If so, how do I access the adapter to set it up for the
network? I have reset it; are there default settings I can
use to access it through the network if I can't set it up?

No, not without an Xbox. It needs to be programmed the first time through
the Xbox Dashboard. After that, yes.

I had originally set it up on an Xbox. Did I make a
mistake in resetting it? It has been used with an Xbox if
that makes a difference.

I also have access to an Xbox, is there a way to get the
setup CD if I have to do that? (I'd prefer not to have to
get the Xbox if I can avoid it)

You know, I don't know. If you used the Restore, it may have wiped out the
original programming only, so you could just plug it into a PC and see if
you can see it or not. 8-)

I swapped my network around last night to hardwire my
Xbox to my router and used my MN-740 to connect my PC
(w/Win 98SE) to the network. It works, but I did not
find any way to configure the MN-740 from the PC. I just
left it configured from the Xbox and then moved
everything around without resetting the MN-740.

All I had to do on the PC was to define a new network
connection and set everything to autodetect. Bingo, it
worked. I supposed if I ever change my WEP key I'll have
to reconnect the adapter to the Xbox temporarily to make
the change.

BTW - I never used the setup CD that came with the MN-740
when I connected it to my Xbox. It is still sealed in
the package. But I have a newer Xbox that already had
the Live and networking options on the dashboard. Maybe
this is only required for older Xboxes that didn't
already have the updated software, IDK.

The MN-740 needs to be programmed using the CD which came with it, through
the Xbox Dashboard. That's the only way you can set it up the first time.
