Can you update the 720 firmware on another computer?
Otherwise, try uninstalling the software for the 720,
remove the TCP/IP stack for the 720, and then see if you
can upgrade the 720 firmware -- you may need to reinstall
the CD though
Another idea is to get into safe mode, and update the 720
firmware from there -- I don't know if this even will work,
since safe mode disables many services
