My wireless network system works fine at home. But at the
airport, I was sitting next to someone who was on a
publicly available network. My card was not detecting a
network. The network connection like just blinked on and
off. Could use some help on this one. --L

You would want to go into your Networ Places (assuming you're using XP) and
use the option to detect all available networks. See if the option is or is
not available (are you detecting the Network).

Beyond that, if you're sure the airport was wide open, how about other
places besides your house, how is the success?

The options I see are to View Network Connections and to
Show Icons for Netwrked UPnP devices. I do not see an
option for Detecting all available networks.

Does it matter if the firewall is on? --L

The Windows XP SP2 firewall accounts for LAN connections. What was the IP
address of the mysterious LAN, and do your settings in the Properties of
your regular wireless allow for "Any available network (access point
preferred)" when you click the Advanced button?

Chris, I don't know the IP address. Actually, neither did
the guy I was sitting next to. They just showed up in the
wireless icon in the tray.

I am not sure which Advanced button to hit to see: "Any
available network (access point
>preferred)"

My card just does not see hotspot access point signals
unless it is at home with my base station. --L

My wireless card just blinked like it would if I would
turn off my wirelss base station.

Has it ever worked in other places besides your home? Or has it just been
your home and that airport where you've been able to test it?

It has worked only in my home. I have had similar
experiences, although limited, in other hotspots. It does
not see any network. The wireless light just blinks. --L

1. are you using XP? (SP2 I hope)
2. is the wireless zero configuration service starting and running?
(start, run, services.msc, OK, scroll the list and start the service
and have it start automatically).
3. with WZC running, there should be a task tray icon near the clock
that sniffs networks, or that you can click and select view wireless
networks.

if none of the above helps, please post info on what OS you are using.

also, if you are using XP, do NOT use the BNU software to configure
the wireless card.

OK, now we may be onto something. I used BNU to configure
the wireless card. I guess I unistall it and use WXC.
Will this automatically accept the card? Yes, XP with SP2
onboard. Thanks, will try this option. --L
