MN-710 crashes my PC

As soon as I install the MSBN software that came with this
MN-710 my PC (OS-Win98SE, 700MHZ, Pentium 3) freezes and
crashes consistently. This occurs after the update is
installed too. Sometimes it works well for an hour or 2
until I use a filesharing program for a few minutes. Other
times I am not sure what else might aid in the
disruptivity. I've found 2 instances of Microsoft(R)
Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter MN-710 in the Network
Neighborhood Properties Configuration as well as a TCP/IP
version too, removed them several times. I reformatted the
PC and am having the same problems. Internet connection is
intermittent and the location is about 80 feet from the
Linksys router in the main house.

Are you getting any errors with details when you get these craches, or blue
screens?

Have you tried multiple USB ports? Is the error only when you use file and
print sharing?

Yes, multiple USB ports have been tried. I have installed
USB 2 since the original installation of the MN-710.
Things got better for a while but the crashes never ceased.
Today, I reinstalled the MN-710 update once again and am
back on the internet for the moment.
I get blue screens or just freezes. Restarts were nearly
impossible except with the restart button for months until
yesterday, even after the Windows 98SE reformat 3 weeks
ago. The day before yesterday I extended the adapter 10
feet outside, under the roof overhang. The connection
speed is intermittent between 0 and 24 mbps typically.
Thanks for your concern.

What file sharing program were you using? Or at least....are your problems
unique to that program, or happening more often?

You've been through a series of reformats and the problem keeps happening?
Wonder if it's hardware? Win98Se and USB 2? I do wonder how good a
combination that is in reality. Wonder if it's all a factor.

Ever have the opportunity to try a different adapter in case that happens to
be it too? Do you know anybody else that could test the adapter itself?

I've had the same issues (random lockups), yet I use Windows XP. I've
tried the latest updates and I've had this adapter since SP1 and it
seems as long as I've had this hardware, it locks up my computer. My
roommate has the same adapter (MN-710) and he has no problems, so it
could be an internal Hardware issue. I've seen about 3 other cases
such as this while searching through Google Groups, but no one seemed
to have a solution.

So, if there is any more information out there on this, I would love to
hear/read it.

Thanks
