Go into Command Prompt (on XP, not just Start/Run) and at the prompt type in
"ipconfig" without the quotes. See if it is returning a proper IP address
for your non-cooperative laptop. If it shows a 169.x.x.x address, you're
not part of the LAN sequence. Try doing "ipconfig /release" followed by
"ipconfig /renew" (without quotes) to see if it'll pick up the DHCP address
feed from the MN-700.
