MN-700 Wired Connection Problems

I've got a problem with a mn-700. The symptoms are
bizare. I'm pretty network savvy (MCSE, etc..) and this
is rather long -

Router is connected to a DSL modem. PPPOE, DHCP, 128 WEP,
all the login settings in the router are fine. Via a
wireless connection, the router MN-700 runs great.
Internet traffic runs super fast. No problems at all.
Internet, local network, manage the router, etc..

When I connect ANY PC via the wired connection, after
approx 30 seconds of INTERNET traffic the router shuts
down to both wired and wireless traffic. It has to be
powered off to reset and reconnect. I stress INTERNET
traffic because local network traffic is fine. Peer to
peer, manage the router, etc..

I've taken it back to the store twice (three individual
routers) and ALL of them act the same way.

3 PCs: Win98 Desktop (PCI NIC), Win XP Home Desktop (Dell
4600) Wireless (MN-730), Dell C400 laptop with Dell
wireless and wired. I've used the laptop with built in
wireless & wired connections. It works great on
wireless. Once I switch to wired, it's over. I can get
about 30 seconds of traffic before the router shuts down.
The wired card on the laptop is fine, I use it all day at
work.

Replaced the supplied wires with known good cables (again
from work) to and from all devices.

Running a persistent ping (ping 192.168.2.1 -t) shows it
all. Pings are returned to all PCs (wired and wireless).
Wireless access to the internet is fine (for example I
downloaded the most recent firmware update). I open IE
(or any internet access) from a wired pc and go to any
page and the router dies. Pings stop being returned to
ALL PCs, and I have to power off the router.

I have not yet updated the firmware (it's my father in
laws system). I suspect that's the problem...

Any other experience like this?

I haven't even gotten to trying the card but I am having
the same exact problem. Keeps dropping the connection to
the network after about 30 secs of IE browsing. Also
renders printer unusable. Nothing works except unplugging
base station & plugging back in. Glad I'm not alone.

I had a similar problem when I initially installed my mn-
700. You need to download the "upgrade" (Help...check
for updates online) from the Broadband Network Utility
and install it. Upgrade the firmware. You should be
working fine after that.

Got this problem fixed with the firmware update to the
base station. Had something to do with ISP's PPPoE
protocol.

That did it. Had to pull the firmware via the wireless
pc, ironcially, since using the wired connection always
killed the router. The guy at CompUSA was tired of seeing
me come in for a return of the router. The box was thrown
away before the DSL config. was complete, or we'd of
switched brands. Every one on the shelf must have had the
same firmware version.
