1. I'm using a 40 bit WEP key and MAC filtering.
2. About 5 other wireless networks are in the vicinity, I
live in a 17 floor condo.
3. I haven't got a spectrum analyzer so I can't really
measure how much noise is in this area.
4. The computer is a notebook so it varies in distance
from the MN-700, the most would be about 20 feet. However
the problem happens even when I am 2 feet from the MN-700.
5. I'm using channel 1 and appear to be the only person
using that channel. Everyone else is on 6 or 11.
6. I didn't know Network Stumbler was unreliable, I just
noticed a pattern -> every time that 000000000 MAC address
appeared in Network Stumbler I would lose my connection.
It might be worth noting that I never see this zeroed MAC
address happening on any of my neighbors wireless routers
with Network Stumbler (however this software is apparently
unreliable so I'm not sure if that means anything).
I have also tried connecting to a couple of my neighbors
wireless routers (they weren't secured and I just wanted
to test the connection, not steal their Internet service)
and I was able to maintain a connection without problems.
In fact I will often jump on a neighbors router if I need
to check my email when my MN-700 blacks out!
I'm not sure about what the best practice is for selecting
a channel and what security measures are recommended. I
am wide open to suggestions right now. I've been running
fine for months up until about 2 1/2 weeks ago.
Thanks for any ideas you can give me!
