MN-700 Low Upload Speed "Feature"

After many calls with MS support on my MN-700, I got today the final
detemination. I've been having terrible upload speeds - lucky to get 80
on a DSL account rated for 256 upload. Actually get 200-210 with the DSL
modem connected directly and no MN-700. Microsoft now says that the low
upload speed is a feature! It relates to the firewall and NAT and means
that "nobody can hack my computer" because of it. No possibly of a
firmware update to resolve it because, after all, it is a feature. The
connection is PPPoE.

So now I need to get something else. I will get my money back on the MN-
700. Anyone please have advice on what to get as a replacement? I seem
to be stuck with the MN-720 and have no other available DSL provider
here (northwest montana) to get around the PPPoE issues.

Thanks,

Mike

What complete crap they gave you.

I am not having any upload speed problem. I do use cable
and not dsl.

I'm sure it is, but do you have your firmware updated?

Sounds like you spoke to the same support genius that I
had. I had the same problems and returned my MN 700 and
bought the Linksys Wireless G. Works like a charm with my
MN720 Wireless card.

Good Luck.

The slow upload "feature" is only available to users with PPPoE connections.
I guess according to this ms tech the others are not protected from hackers.
Seriously I scrapped my MN-700 and replaced it with a D-Link 624 which is
speedy and trouble free..It did have some restart (that most wouldn't notice
unless they read the log) issues but the latest firmware v 2.42 fixes that.
It is the fastest G modem I have tested..I haven't tried the Super G (108Mb)
speed though because my laptop has a built in dell wireless adapter and my
other wireless unit is an IPAQ which is B. My two desktop computers are hard
wired to the 624.
Give it a try.

Thanks for the recommendation. I returned the MN-700, got a Linksys
Wireless G, set it up with no problem, including connecting with the MN-
720 and am getting the up and down speed I should. PPPoE seems to be no
problem for THIS router.

I have the same problem and I now have a Netgear and it
works great. I had the RP 614 but that one is not wireless
so I got the WGR 614. I now get 248 upload and 1346
download. I know the MN-700 got me 83 up and 1134 down. I
paid more for the Netgear but it was worth it... Good luck
