I was going to suggest against even keeping it installed. Since it is a
wireless connection I'll ask some more questions.
1) Are you broadcasting the SSID? (Disabling the broadcast is not a
valid form of security.)
2) Have you tried changing the wireless channel from the router?
3) what's the firmware version on the router?
4) Have you checked if there is a firmware update for the linksys NIC?
5) What kind of wireless security are you using? (Examples are WEP,
WPA, & MAC filtering)
6) Have you installed the 815485 or the 826942 update?
7) Do you have 802.1x authentication enabled on your wireless connection?
8) Please read the following articles 313242, 314897, 324024, 811057,
814154, 814444, 821400, 821442, 822725, 823370, 826239, 827537, 828940,
831277, 831749, 834525, 834565, 836516, 837911, & 841800. (I only gave
you a partial list of the wireless articles I know about. I know of 62
public and one none public.)
9) Run "ping www.homestead.com" from the command prompt
10) Run "ping 209.157.71.50" from the command prompt
11) Run "tracert www.homestead.com" from the command prompt
12) Run "tracert 209.157.71.50" from the command prompt
If you give me the results from those 4 tests (9-14), read the articles
I mentioned in 8, & answer the questions I asked I can help you out better.
For the Tracert I want to know on which hop it died (meaning the hop
with three "*") it's IP address & the IP address just before it, if it
made it all the way, or if it couldn't find the server.
An example of what I'm looking for with the tracert is something like this
"14 * 307 ms * 209.157.68.36
15 414 ms 700 ms 403 ms sitebuilderlpx.com [209.157.71.50]
Trace complete."
The results I just showed suck because I'm downloading 8 bit torrents
right when I did the test. That always kills my results. Of course you
always get worse results when you are already downloading when you do
the test.
