Are you trying to access Microsoft's newsgroups? If so, you can use
msnews.microsoft.com as the news server and subscribe to any Microsoft group
you desire. It is free, no signon, no password. You might try that, simply
to see if you can use regular NNTP newsgroup other than Earthlink's.
As for what Earthlink is telling you, the IP address assigned your account
comes from the ISP (Earthlink) and not from the router.
