Hello All,

I have seen this question posted before and no one has
replied (or maybe I missed it), so I will ask it again.
I am running WinME, with MN700 Router and DSL1000 Modem
connected to MSN/Qwest as my ISP. I have the wireless
port turned off at this time and only one computer
connected to the router. Internet works fine except that
downloads stop after about 1 minute. I am sure there is a
setting to change or something simple. Yes, I have
updated the firmware and spent 90 minutes on the phone
with tech support (in India, no less) to no avail.
Here is a portion of the log - Note that DHCP client
leases expire in one minute (coincidence?):
2004/01/23 13:33:44 System time synchronized with

I have changed the LAN lease time to various settings and
that makes no difference. I am an electrical engineer
with extensive networking experience but all that training
is just confusing in this case :-). Any help would be
appreciated. TIA.

Change your lease time to two weeks in the base station management tool.
Looks like you've got it set for one minute, so it is constantly attempting
to renew it.

Hi Chris,
I have changed it to several different settings, two
weeks, 24 hours, etc... and the time stays at one minute.
Thanks (unless there is a secret way to change it).

Well, DUH! Besides, the lease time on the base station is for LAN only.
Rushed to the dinner table. LOL! See if this Knowledge Base article
doesn't help you:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=MSbbn
There are very specific setup instructions when you use MSN.

Hello Chris,
I followed the procedure in KB Article 814223 and
downloads still failed after precisely 60 seconds. Might
there be an IE setting to help this out? The Base Station
logs still show a lease time out of 1 minute. Thanks.

Tony, darn it. Something isn't right (as you can tell). How about doing a
factory reset on that base station (it only wipes out your settings) and put
the information back in. There shouldn't be a one-minute setting in there,
and I have a feeling if you start from scratch making you can give it a kick
in the you-know-what. 8-)

Use a pen or unfolded paperclip placed in the Reset hole on the back,
holding it there for more than five seconds. The lights will alternate
orange and green. Then go to 192.168.2.1 in your browser and set it up.
Once set up, and after you've saved it in the Base Station Management Tool,
pull the power for about 60 seconds.

Hello Chris-
I tried factory reset a few times today and nothing
has changed. I pulled the router out of the system (i.e.
between the modem and our main computer) and downloads
happen without interruption. I wish I had better news -
any other thoughts before I return this router to the
store?

Thanks
Tony
