6) What happens at the end, if you do the following steps.
(Please note I haven't dealt with Windows 98 in several years so some of
these directions may be a little off, so you might need to ask someone
who either still uses it & understands it.)
a) Download "Microsoft Broadband Network Utility" from the following
link
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814445
b) Copy the contents of the *:\win98 folder to your hard drive, assuming
this hasn't been done earlier. (replace the "*" with whatever drive
letter your CD-ROM drive has.)
c) Start | run | msconfig
d) Click on the advanced button in the bottom right hand corner then put
a check in "enable startup menu"
e) Click OK & click ok again.
f) When it asks if you want to reboot tell it yes, or something like that.
g) When the menu comes up select "safe mode" maker sure it just says
"safe mode" nothing else on that line like "safe mode command prompt".
h) Remove the entries for "unknown device plug n play" & "existing Ndis
driver" from device manager.
i) Make sure You computer is set to show hidden & system files
j) Do a search for "Drvdata.bin,Drvidx.bin" (without the quotes of
course) on the C: drive.
k) Delete both Drvdata.bin & Drvidx.bin files as they will be rebuilt
when we restart into normal mode.
l) Install the file you downloaded back in step a
m) Reboot the computer into normal mode
n) Post if that fixed it or if something happened to prevent you from
following the steps I posted.

Please do not contact me directly or ask me to contact you directly for
assistance.
If your question is worth asking, it's worth posting.
If it’s not worth posting you should have done a search on
http://www.google.com/ http://www.google.com/grphp?hl=en&tab=wg&q= or
http://news.google.com/froogle?hl=en&tab=nf&ned=us&q= before wasting our
time.
If I sound hostile or arrogant you need to read the following before
posting a question "How To Ask Questions The Smart Way" at
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html (The site I've linked
to just has this article I think people should read before posting a
technical question.)
