I am using an MN 500 base station on a computer with win
2000. I have two other desktops that connect wirelessly
to router. Here's the problem. The cable modem I have
keeps going offline. Is there anyway that the MN 500
might be causing the cable modem to keep going off? All
the power lights on my MN 500 look fine. It seems that
the MN 500 is causing a problem with the broadband modem.
Any tips on how to resolve this issue. The cable modem is
connected to the router. The router is connected by
ethernet to the win 2k computer.

There's nothing I'm aware of that would do this. How do you know it is
"going offline" (what are the symptoms?) what brand and model cable modem?

The cable modem is an ericson pipe rider. I know the
modem is going offline because the lights on the modem all
go out except for one. When its connected the top 3
lights on the modem are on.

what happens if NOTHING is connected to the modem (no router, no computer)?

I know there are firmware updates for the MN-500. I have
the same router. That maybe the core problem.

I can tell you that my ISP's cable service was flakey for
a while, and it took me 2 weeks of griping to them to get
it fixed. They replaced the cable modem, the junction
boxes, etc. I really think it was a problem down the line,
because all that swapping out of equipment had no effect.
It was two days after they gave me a new cable modem that
the problem went away.

In summary, cable problems are not to be dismissed as a
source. The best way to find out is to directly connect
your PC to the cable modem and not use the router. See if
the problem goes away. If not, it's likely your cable
modem or the cable service.
