setting up my base station on my network. I get to the
step where it begins
programming the base station but then an error comes up
telling me to 1)disable all firewalls and other security
software and 2)reset the base station to factory
settings. I have done both of these steps but the same
error keeps showing up. I have even uninstalled my
ZoneLabs firewall, Norton Antivirus, and disabled the
Windows XP ICF (Internet Connection Firewall). I have
also tried removing the Microsoft Networking Software and
starting the setup process all over again. Does anyone
know of any other solutions?

Thanks,
Ron

I had this problem this week. I eventually configured
the base station manually and, as one step in the
process, I cloned the MAC address of the network card
that was used to install the cable modem. I assume the
cable company refuses to communicate with any other MAC
address and by cloning, the base station no uses that
address to communicate with the modem and cable network.

They use the Mac address to authenticate.
