The incompatibility is basically the front-end interface with XP SP2, which
you can get around by using XP to manage your networking (especially
wireless) by enabling Wireless Zero Configuration in Control
Panel/Administrative Tools/Services. However, you can also update the
software if you like using the unnecessarily extra software layer here:

under Downloads and Updates. The page doesn't note it, but the same
software update is for both the 500- and 700-series routers.
