You don't need the software to configure the router. You can always
just go to
http://192.168.2.1 and configure it from there. All the
software does is forward you to that page with some parts of the IE
window disabled.
The software is only needed to configure wireless connections of
versions of Windows before Windows XP because they don't fully support
wireless networking. That is to say they don't support WEP or WPA.
