MN-500 base station log

Quick question: where is the MN-500 base station log stored? Is it within
the base station itself? or is it stored on the hard drive?

Reason: Something is constantly accessing my hard drive every 2 - 3 seconds
and I've narrowed it down to the MN-500 router. The soft, but persisent,
"click" "click" as my hard drive is accessed, is driving me crazy. This is
constant, even when I'm mearly looking at the computer.

Details: I'm using XP Home (SP2) and it's a new refurbished Emachines T6410.
I'm "up-to-scratch" with all updates and I've already disabled any potential
services (thanks to the late Alex Nichol) that might be the problem. No
problems with the other two computers on my home LAN. More details, if
needed. Done Google search etc.

Is there any way to disable the log? Registry hack? Log readout seems to
coincide with hard drive access and this "phenomenon" isn't new. I've lived
with this for a couple of years and with several different computers
attached to the MN-500.

The log is stored inside the MN-500. You might try uninstalling the
BNU. Since that's the only thing that comes with the MN-500 that runs
on your computer.

If doing that doesn't solve this problem I'd suggest running a free
online virus scan over at http://housecall.antivirus.com & if it is
still doing it then I'd also recommend using both "Ad-Aware" by Lavasoft
from http://www.lavasoftusa.com along with "Spybot Search & Destroy"
from http://www.safer-networking.org

If your question is worth asking, it's worth posting.

If it’s not worth posting you should have done a search on
http://www.google.com/ http://www.google.com/grphp?hl=en&tab=wg&q= or
http://news.google.com/froogle?hl=en&tab=nf&ned=us&q= before wasting our
time.

If I sound hostile or arrogant you need to read the following before
posting a question "How To Ask Questions The Smart Way" at
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html (The site I've linked
to just has this article I think people should read before posting a
technical question.)

I probably sound like an idiot, but what does "BNU" stand for ? and, more
importantly, where does it reside on the harddrive? I've not installed any
Microsoft base station utility software on this computer at all; just
plugged in the cable to the ethernet port and configured the network
settings.

I have both aforementioned programs on my computer as well as anti-virus
software.

The BNU is the Broadband Networking Utility (BTW I think it's an idiot
who would rather assume then ask that question). If you only connected
the computer to the MN-500 & you didn't insert the CD that came with the
MN-500 into that computer, then you most likely don't have it installed.

Oh for future reference a search for "BNU Microsoft" or
"site:microsoft.com bnu" (both without the quotes) on
http://www.google.com will list some articles that say what the BNU is
from Microsoft.

Well if you don't have the BNU installed on your computer then it must
be some other software that is doing this. As for what is causing it I
have no idea.

To try & figure out what is running in the background your might try
some of the information over at http://www.sysinfo.org/startupinfo.html
along with the following links
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;310560
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;312393

http://www.support.microsoft.com/sea...de=a&x=14&y=11

So at this point if it is something other then the BNU it would be
considered off topic in this newsgroup.
