hi,

i'm running windows 2000, and trying to get an MN-500 to work with Pac
Bell DSL. my computer is hard wired to the router. the problem is, the
router will drop the DSL connection after a few minutes, and nothing
less than a power-down of the router will get it working again. i like
to think that i know a little bit about setting up wireless routers
basics - i've had netgear and linksys routers working in the past with
zero problems.

i've upgraded to the latest firmware, i don't have any firewall
software, and i've hunted high and low for threads pertaining to this
problem, but haven't found anything that might fix the problem.

the worst thing is, there is no tech support number that i can call -
free or paid.

am i just S.O.L?

thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give me.

If instead of resetting the router browse to http://192.168.2.1 And
check the basestation log. I bet the last entry is a PADT. If that is
the case your ISP is killing your Internet Connection. There is free
tech support for 1 year from the first time you call in BTW (That is
assuming you are in the USA or Canada which are the only countries this
hardware is supported in).

wow - i'll check. if this turns out to be the case, what is it about
the Microsoft router that Pac Bell doesn't like? i've used Linksys,
Netgear, and Zyxel without any problems in the past. and how would i
approach pac bell? what should i tell them to change or check?

good to hear about the tech support, but i can't find an actual
telephone # anywhere - not the manual, and not on the box.

thanks.

Set the router to auto disconnect after about 500 seconds and enable the
auto reconnect feature. The reason they are kicking you off is because
they see that you are not using the connection which is costing them money.

in the end, after lots of aggravation and about 2 hours on the phone
with MS tech support, it turns out that i had a defective router.
thanks to everyone for their help.
