If I get a new notebook with, say, 802.11g capability,
can I use it with my MN-500 setup? Is it difficult?

You will just be limited to 802.11b speeds assuming the wireless card
supports 802.11b. If it doesn't support it you will need to get a new
router or add a WAP to you network.
