MN-130 critical update

I just installed a new network card and everything worked
great until I downloaded and installed the critical update
for this product. After installation of the update the
system tray locks up and the icons on the desktop don't
respond at all. This continues even when rebooted. Anybody
else have this problem? If so is there anything I can do
besides not installing the update? I'm running Windows ME.
