My ISP says I have to use their modem, which is a speedstream that has built
in router and firewall. It only has one ethernet port though so I connect it
my mn100. everything works fine as far as internet access and our lan. I am
trying to set up a vpn but I cannot figure out how to do the port forwarding
or if it is possible in this configuration. I forwarded port 1723 on the
modem to the router ip and forwarded port 1723 on base station to same port
on local machine. If I scan the port online it reports it as open, but I
cannot make the connection. I tried port 80 tcp/udp to the same machine to
try to access by web and it is not found when I try to access from the web,
although again the port is reported as open. Any suggestions? Do I really
need to use their modem or can I get a passive modem and just worry about
the base station router? Am I missing something else?

Thanks

nevermind. the problem stemmed form the fact that I cannot connect from
within the lan using the wan address. I can connect from an external
location via wan address. must be some loop back issue.

Actually you need to upgrade the MN100 firmware to get
loopback support on the MN100.

You need to get the updated firmware of the MN100 for loopback support
(pre-1.09 versions didn't have loopback support)

The current firmware for the MN100 is 1.11.017
You can get that at
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/br...Downloads.aspx
