For Xmas I gave my son a MN-100 base station and it is working fine
for him except that he cannot use Messenger on his computer. He has
cable broadband and can send and receive email and see the web. When
he tries to start Messenger he gets the message "unable to sign into
Net Messenger Service - check your Internet connection 0x81000301". I
tried it at my home and got on MSN Messenger with his user name and
password just fine. I am on ADSL. (He will be changing his password
soon, I am sure.) Anyhow, I said I would ask as he is on his way to
work and has tried everything he can think of, such as starting
Universal Plug and Play, reentering his password etc....

Did he upgrade Messenger? -- some old versions of Windows
Messenger didn't work with the router.

He tried that, thanks. What it turned out to be was that there were
remnants of Zone Alarm on his system. He had uninstalled it, but some
services were still there. He ended up reinstalling Zone Alarm and
taking it out with their Uninstaller instead of using Add Remove
Programs. Now everything works and he has the newest Messenger too.
