Missing Registry Entries, network connection and Driver file prope

OK, I have a Windows 2000 Server here that has issues with the network card.
The server is a Dell 2550 running Windows 2000 Server SP4, and the issue is
with the onboard Intel 10/100 network. Well, there is an issue with
networking in general, but NIC I'm concerned with right now is the Intel, as
the Gigabit card in there is just a backup card not being used.

Anyway, here's what's going on. If i go to control panel, network
connections, there's nothing listed in there. If i go to device manager and
look at properties of that nic, it is there, listed as Intel 8255X network
connection, but driver provider, date, etc are showing as unknown. It is
also missing tab that would let me set speed/duplex(which is what I was
trying to do when I noticed this in the first place). Lastly, if I try to go
to this registry hive:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318}

As indicated on this page:

To find the settings, I find 7 registry keys under that one. These of
course are supposed to refer one each to wan miniport drivers, each of the
network cards, etc. The problem is that keys 0000-0005 all give an error
when loading key. 0006 opens, but just refers to wan miniport, not to the
card in question.

Obviously, with the registry issue, i was pretty sure that it wasn't just a
simple driver issue, but did try treating it as that to start anyway. I
attempted to update the driver both with Dell's on-click driver upgrade, and
with the full driver pack and pointed windows to the correct path. Neither
way worked. Windows was unable to install the driver, and the one-click pack
said there was no applicable hardware.

I'm pretty much at a loss here now. I just came into this system, so things
like backups of registry, other helpful stuff like that of course is
non-existant. I believe I have another 2550 or two running 2k sp4, but
unsure if even something like exporting those registry keys would be helpful,
and as it's a production server, worry that if it's not helpful, might leave
server inoperable.

What are the chances that you can uninstall and re-install the NIC? It
sounds like the installation did not fully complete or that there was
corruption since the registry is also not complete.

I have that on list for last thing to try, just unsure of when i'll be able
to do it, as don't know if any clients use that server(and hence whether any
SLA or contractual obligations apply as to when i can take it down to do
something like that). Also, worried that it's symptom of some bigger
problem, so putting it off until I can give it a bit more time for responses
and feedback. I tend to think something like that might fix it too, just, as
I said, hesitant as to what else might happen as part of that.
