missing infrared device in add new dial-up networking connection

Windows ME
Although I can succesfully make an infrared connection and
the infrared device is listed in system / infrared and
also in system / adaptors, when I try to make a new dial-
up connection, the infrared device is not listed in the
dropdown list of available devices. I can however see my
modem in the list.

I've tried removing the IR devices and re-loading but this
doesnt make the device list in new DUN connection.

I've also forced the control panel / network option to re-
build it's database by going in to it and clicking okay
and then re-booting.

How or what can I do to make the IR device (which is
working fine) list in the make new DUN connection drop
down liast of devices?

I want to be able to add a IR network connection so that I
can map a drive to it in windows explorer, as described in
windows ME help.
