Subject: Where does this 'Tickle' pop-up come from?
Date: Mon, 10 May 2004 06:11:09 +0100
Message-ID: <(E-Mail Removed)>

I had lots of help about getting rid of spyware and banners. I
installed the programs recommended and sort of forgot all about it
from then on. I reckon I should have been more focused, because now
I'm getting repeteadly irritated by what I *suspect* is a side-effect
of one of these progs: GIFs which appear as just 'x'.

For example, I'm looking at http://www.pcpro.co.uk but there are two
such missing GIFs at the top. (As an aside, there are 2 'x', but oddly
their Properties appear to be identical:
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/front_framese...es/nav/pad.gif )

I recalled that one of the programs I installed at the tme was called
edexter, and that it was (somehow!) intended to sort out this missing
GIF business. So I just ran it. But I'm darned if I know how to use
it, and studying the FAQ didn't take me much further forward. Couls
someone give me a quick, parctiacl step-by-step pointer on how to
proceed please? For example, what's this 'Select Images Folder...'
menu item all about?

Thanks.

There is another possibility, but the PC Pro site loads ok on my machine
- some anti-spyware programs have a "hosts file" that will block
downloads from certain advertisers who have used malicious practices in
the past.

In this instance they just look like ordinary animated GIFs though :-}

Thanks for the prompt response. They're definitely not accessible
here!

Perhaps it's to celebrate the fact that the Unisys patent on GIF/LZW has
just (20th June) expired!
