Missing device file

Hi,

In the process of un-installing and re-installing a Linksys WMP 11 Wireless
PCI adaptor driver (under Windows 98SE), I seem to have 'lost' three driver
files: vnetsup.vxd, vredir.vxd and dfs.vxd, which prevent me from setting up
a home network.

I now get a message on start up ' Cannot find a device file that may be
needed to run Windows or Windows application. The Windows reggistry of
Systems. file refers to this device file but the file no longer exists.....'
followed by ' Windows networking: Unable to load dynamic link library
msnp32.dll...'

I have tried re-installing the WMP 11 driver and looking for an update
driver for the installed dial up adapter but get the message that the
existing drivers are the best available.

I presume that the missing files are on my Windows 98SE disc, as a CAB file,
but I believe that I need ZipScan to access them.

Can you please asdvise the best way to correct this problem.

Thank you.

Mike

I have now found KB article ID : 166832, which appears to address this
problem.

However, following the resolution procedure has not been entirely successful.

Vnetsetup.vxd is no longer listed as missing but the other messages remain
the same.

I should be grateful for any suggestions?

Mike

boot into "safe mode" and remove all references to you network card...reboot
and let windows redetect the card and have the driver disk handy (for your
NIC)

Try to check the post made by steve with subject "msnp32.dll" posted
few days earlier than yours.
Solution is there.
