Misdirected email?

We are finding emails addressed to (E-Mail Removed) are
being delivered to (E-Mail Removed)

I have omitted the real name but everything else is correct including the
digit '1'

Is this a btconnect issue? The emails originate from different senders so I
don't think it's a local issue. Any suggestions how to proceed would be
appreciated.

It's somewhat concerning that this type of thing can occur, it questions
the security of the sending system?

Regards
Barry

Has the btconnect.com account by any chance got a forwarding instruction
placed against it? Could such an instruction have survived the re-use of the
account name (E-Mail Removed)? (See
<http://btb.lithium.com/btb/board/crawl_message?board.id=EmailBoard&message.id=1309> ).

You could probably tell by looking at the email headers.

It's possible that it is caused by a invalid DNS entry.

When you say "emails addressed to", do you mean you know for certain what
address the sender specified as the recipient, or do you mean the mails
contain "To: those values" (which may be irrelevant)?

That is, do you know the SMTP envelope values?

Jeremy C B Nicoll - my opinions are my own.

Email sent to my from-address will be deleted. Instead, please reply
to (E-Mail Removed) replacing "aaa" by "284".

How do you know? Do you also own the sky address - or are the emails
going to someone unrelated who happens to have the same name?

If you own the address, are you sure that you haven't specified it as
the 'Reply Address' when setting up your btconnect account in your email
client? If you *have*, when someone replies to one of your emails, the
reply will go to the sky address.

We know nothing about the 'sky' recipient and as far as I know the
originator specified the correct email address in the 'To:' field. None of
the emails concerned were replies.

Fortunately the 'sky' recipient seems to be a honest person and brought the
misdirection to our attention as soon as they received the first one (of
quite a few)

Email usually isn't routed using the 'To' field; it's routed using
what's in the 'SMTP envelope.'

Was the original email general 'spam' or was it from someone you know?

It would be interesting to see the headers of one of the original
emails received by the friendly Sky recipient.

Have you tried going to the btconnect web site for the email to check
it a redirect has been put in there?
