Migrating to ZEN

Hi All,

Just a quick question to any ZEN subscribers;

I have started a migration from AOL to ZEN in the last couple of days and
have now received an email containing my connection details etc.

The only problem I see is that they have issued me with a strange email
and web address in the form of zen*****@zen.co.uk and
www.zen****.zen.co.uk (zen followed by 5 numeric digits).

So when the account goes live does the zen***** get changed to something
more user friendly automatically, by me or am I stuck with it in that
format?

Thanks in advance.

http://www.zensupport.co.uk/email.aspx

Look for the section on aliases.

Looks like you only get a single pop3 mailbox. Are you sure you've
picked the right ISP?

Have a look at: http://www.zensupport.co.uk/email.aspx

Scroll down to:

"How do I change my Zen e-mail address?" and
"What is an Alias?"

Thanks for the link. Yes I am quite happy with all the reviews and
comments I have seen re ZEN. Also the fact that it is a 1 month rolling
contract means I can easily change if I wish.

Also 1 pop3 box is what I want as I run a local pop3 server which splits
mail into different boxes for different users.

Thanks. Does setting up an email alias mean that the web space will be
available in the user friendly form as well ie
www.firstname.surname.zen.uk ?

No, the alias is just for email.

http://www.zenxxxxx.zen.co.uk for the web space I'm afraid.

I'd also recommend
http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=zen

Plenty of helpful Zen staff post there if you have a query.

Given you have something your end, why on earth don't you register a domain
name (costs as little as US$15 for 5 years for a .info) and forward mail to
your horribly-named zen POP mailbox (and to any other if you change ISP in
a few years). There's little need for an ISP mail address to be used for
anyone apart from the ISP, and makes switching so much easier in future,
with no concerns about losing mail (could have mail to a yahoo.co.uk as
an alternative - they offer plenty of space, compared with many ISPs, do
POP for free, for now, and you don't need to send using yahoo, but can if
you ever need to as an alternative to an ISPs SMTP service if that's dead.

runbox.com - 1000 MB of mail storage and 100 MB for files...
30 day free trial... <http://web.vfm-deals.com/runbox/>
Can accept mail for your domain and apply filtering...
Point your MX record to mx.runbox.com and use POP/IMAP...

OK no probs. It's not really a problem because the web forwarding I use
from my own domain masks the address anyway. I just wanted something
easier for me to remember.

Sorry I do have my own domain and that is exactly what I will be doing. I
just wanted something easier to remember for setup purposes and for the
rare occasion that I will be using their webmail service.

Thanks.
