Migrating a WINS database form W2K to W2K3

Hello,

I've found Q300473 for NT4 to W2K but how to do this from W2K to W2K3? Is
it as simple as backing up the W2K WINS database using the MMC, moving it to
the W2K3 server and restoring it overthere?

Thx for your input.

Thank you.

I'm wondering which approach is better:

Adding a new WINS server in the domain and later remove the old one or the
migration as described in the KB article? I also hope that we can just
disable the WINS service on the old W2K server as it wil still be needed on
line as File & Print server The aricle says totake it of line which is
perhaps a bit overkill, just giving it a different IP address and removing
WINS (and the server from the replication partners) should do I think.

All tips and experiences are welcome.

Hello,

It seems that you might have a little misunderstanding.

The article assumes that you needn't the Windows 2000 WINS server any more,
so that it says that you can take it offline during the migration.

If you want to use the Windows 2000 Server as a member server in the
domain, you can just stop the WINS server on the Windows 2000 Server
computer instead of take it offline.

Hope it helps.

Regards,

Ada Pan
