Hi folks

Do I have to explicitly cancel with my existing provider after I've been
migrated over to a new ISP?

It's likely that you have to give 30 days notice, but you'll need to check
your current ISP's T&Cs.
I guess if you don't give notice, then your current ISP will bill you for 30
days from the migration date.
It's also advisable to cancel and DD.

Actually it's more accurate to say maybe...

My ISP requires me to send a letter of cancelation despite the fact I
have asked for my MAC & am being migrated Tuesday (ish) & if one is
then you can be sure that others do as well

Certainly am, it may be out of the frying pan & into the fire but
it'll be costing £120 less to be in the fire & I'll have a little more
lateral freedom than where I am now

What if my ISP gives me 30 days notice - for having the audacity to download
more than 3 DVD files per week? Do they have to supply a MAC at the same
time so I can move easily to another supplier?

As far as I know it is only they who can cancel a direct debit or credit
card payment as opposed to a standing order.

If they put you in the naughty girls book, most will assist you in
migrating to another supplier, well the last 3 out of 4 ISPs I've been
with did, the fourth one I've never had the chance to do that much
downloading though I have tried (yeah it's stayed up & working for 24
hours without a reboot * ......bigger YEAH I'm leaving to go to
another pasture next Tuesday, see you lot next Wednesday on this never
ending leapfrogging mode I'm in)

*the utility for adjusting the internal settings for my router was
fine as far as it went but unfortunately I have suffered a little from
stale sessions, causing a need to reboot which then resets the tweaks
to norm again, so although I haven't needed to rebooting to get my
circuit stable I've still required a reboot anyway....

The account holder can cancel a direct debit or a standing order but not a
credit card payment.

Oh no not again! The account holder has to give notice to the payee and the
credit card company. Any payments claimed after such notice are not
permitted. Credit card companies try to tell you otherwise but the legal
position is clear. I am off to the bunker!
