No compatibility issues that I'm aware of, just common sense when you make
some changes to bring up the system in order so everything talks with
everything else. There really is no reason, once they've all talked with
each other to be restarting the base station just because you add another
computer to the LAN.
The first line of checking for LAN errors is to reset the DSL or cable
modem. Sometimes the handshake with the ISP is not working but we think our
LAN has gone belly-up. I've said before, that we're not the only ones
making software changes to the hardware. Your Internet supplier also makes
changes to their equipment via software updates, and we can lose the
connection because the modem and their equipment aren't talking any more. A
restart - i.e., unplugging the modem for a minute or two - most times will
properly restore the connection.
