I have been a big fan of the MN-500 because of it's stability and
reliability. But being the type to always wanting better and faster I
decided to upgrade my Router. I figured because of all the problems that
people are having with the MN-700 I would avoid all that and get a Linksys
WRT54G Router and a WPC54G notebook adapter.

The Router was a snap to setup only needed the driver off of the CD. The
notebook adapter was also a snap, I only needed to install the driver, but I
was having one of those problems that most people wouldn't even know was a
problem because it did connect but the link light on the adapter would not
stay on steady. It would only flash when there was some kind of network
activity. Then there was the cordless phone (2.4Ghz), when it would ring the
whole network would go down, and I mean every time, that only happened on
occasion with the MN-500. I thought about changing the channel but that
wouldn't have solved my link light problem.

So I returned it and figured I'd try the Microsoft MN-700 and MN-720 I got
the MN-820 (notebook kit) for $135.00 Well it took all of 20 minutes to get
the whole thing setup and it seems to be rock solid. Since I formatted my
laptop and didn't want the BNU installed I just had to install the driver
for the MN-720. Now I have a nice clean laptop and the LAN is 5X faster!!!
This thing rocks

I figured with all the horror stories I'd post a good one.

Where did you get your Kit for which you paid only $135?
That seems to be an real bargain for both base station
and a laptop adapter!

Even less expensive: Check www.google.com for a lot of locations (online
and such retail stores as Staples) under $100 for the wireless notebook kit
(802.11b base station and notebook adapter).

Go here:
http://www.securemart.com/cgi-bin/future/MIB24763.html

Price went up $4.00 since I bought mine. Still not bad for a "G" product.
You can find great prices if you use Pricegrabber.com I use it all the time.

I've had a MN-700 for three weeks, along with two MN-510
wireless adapters. One of the adapters is hooked up to a
TiVo USB and the other adapter to a Win 98SE PC.
Everything has been performing great (after I got the MN-
700 BNU upgrade installed; initially, I couldn't stay
connected to the internet; but, after the firmware
upgrade everything is working and stable). A couple of
times a week I may have to reboot my MN-700 router
because it disconnects from the internet. No big deal.

Eric it seems like a bargain because it is. Get the Linksys!!!!!!!!!!!!! You
will have tons of probs with the mn-700 (at least from my personal
experience)

I sold mine and got a Linksys WRT54G and it works PERFECTLY!

That might not be a big deal to you but it is to me and I am assuming a lot
of other people would call that a big deal. Oh and did they finally release
a firmware update for the MN-700? wow took long enough.....
