Most USB2.0 cameras will perform well on an ADSL connection, but I have
leaned towards using a top-end Logitech as I found it to be best in low
light.

The Philips SPC900NC also has very good low-light
performance, as well as a facility in its software for
"face-tracking", which means you don't need to sit still to
stay in frame.

There's a microphone built-in to some web-cams, which saves
having another device to plug in, though you wouldn't use
that if you prefer a headset/mic. A separate or camera
microphone would be needed for group use. If you don't want
others to join in but are stuck in a room with them, then a
noise cancelling facility would be useful.
