Euro1net throws in the towel

Broadband provider Euro1net has ceased trading, just days after thousands of
its customers were dramatically cut-off without warning.

Euro1net said the "media speculation and negative publicity" surrounding the
sudden termination of its customers' services had prevented it selling the
business as a going concern and had led to the withdrawl of its bank's
support.

On 21 August, BT Wholesale wrote to Euro1net customers saying it had stopped
providing a service "due to non-payment of invoices". Euro1net never
clarified whether or not this was the case.

More than 5,000 customers were understood to have been affected by the
termination, many of whom have been unable to switch to a new broadband
supplier until BT had removed a cease order from their phone line.

In an email to customers on Monday, Euro1net said that as it had ceased
trading, "customers will be free to connect with another provider of their
choice". It said it had made its staff redundant and would be making a
formal complaint to Ofcom about BT's conduct.

Ofcom had been holding its own investigation into the situation as a result
of complaints it had received. Customers who paid in advance are advised to
contact their credit card company regarding a refund.
