How to measure total bytes throughput?

I'm close to signing up for broadband after spending the last 6 months on
dialup. I would like to measure my total throughput over a 24 hour period to
see whether Metronet would be a good option, costwise. The problem I have is
that my dialup connection drops every two hours and with it my stats vanish
too. Is there a simple freeware tool that can continue measuring total bytes
throughput (not bandwidth) for hours on end even though the connection is up
and down like a whore's drawers?

Win XP's Task Manager drops all the data every time the connection goes.
IIRC Win Me's System Monitor kept monitoring throughout multiple sessions -
but I'm now on XP.

Thanks,
Tim.

Have you tried XP's Performance Monitor tool? I think it supports
monitoring dialup/network links and may well support multiple sessions.

I've used that for monitoring battery performance on my laptop but did not
think of it for throughput. I think that it will lose all results between
boots, if not between dialup connections:-(

In any case I'm now using DUMeter and that remembers totals for up/down/both
and creates a mini report by day/week/month. It also keeps the log going
between boots and sessions. It's an excellent tool for anyone thinking of
using Metronet ADSL:-)
