Hi guys,

This one is really driving me nuts...I’m an IT helpdesk analyst and
have asked colleagues for advice and no solutions...
Here goes...

Basically after reinstalling a 3COM cardbus PCMCIA card in a Windows
ME laptop the internet won’t work. Strange thing is, I can ping the IP
address of websites such as Yahoo successfully and also the domain
servers no problem. DHCP seems fine, have rebooted the cable modem,
renewed IP address and all seems fine. I’ve repaired IE5.5 and still
nothing.
Constantly just ’Page cannot be displayed’
One interesting thing is that I couldn’t ping domains such as
yahoo.co.uk it came up as host not found. Then if pinged their IP
addresses it would work fine.
After reading another post I removed Netbeui protocol and rebooted and
can now ping domains successfully, yahoo.co.uk. bbc.co.uk....
Still...page cannot be displayed in internet explorer...
I even tried just entering the IP address and still nothing...

I bought a router yesterday (Netgear RP614V2) which was to replace
ICS.
I have my XP SP1 desktop machine connected to port 1 and the laptop on
port 2...
The XP machine works fine. Both machines can see each other and access
data between them no problem...
It’s just the internet???!

Assume from that the hardware is fine and TCPIP stack is fine...

One other point the XP machine only is able to access the router via
IE. The ME machine just gets page cannot be displayed again...yet it
can ping the router from DOS...

I also tried connecting the laptop direct to the cable modem (reboot,
renew IP etc. as has always worked before)

I have also tried deleting index.dat and checked for viruses and
spyware...

Any ideas anyone???

Thank you so much!

The ISP (blueyonder) tech support couldn’t figure out neither could
the network and desktop support technicians where I work!!!

I totally forget about winsocks using XP!

Cheers again!
