I have been trying to solve this problem for about a week. My ME
machine is able to get a working connection to the network after
starting up, but seems to loose network connectivity within 1-5 mins.
The connection does seem to stay alive as long as I am actively
hitting the internet or the other computer on the network. Problem
seems to happen when client is inactive for a couple of minutes. Only
a reboot gets the connection to work again. I should also mention that
my signal is strong at all times - network adapter reports 24 - 54
mbps.

Here is my hardware:

Router: Linksys WRT54G v1.1
Client 1: windowsXP pro - ethernet connection to router
Client 2: windowsME - wireless connection using Netgear WG121 USB
adapter.

Additional info:
~Do not broadcast SSID.
~adapter is 10 ft away from router - clear line of sight - no 2.4ghz
phones or microwaves running. Should note that before I stopped
broadcasting SSID, could see 6 other networks when scanning. All of
them 802.11b using channel 6.
~Signal remains strong even when unable to connect to network
~Tried with and without WEP
~Tried with and without MAC address filtering
~Tried different channels (1,6, and 7)
~Tried static and dynamic IPs.
~Running latest drivers and firmware on router and adapter.

If anyone has run into this problem and solved it, I would really
appreciate some advice. I have read several newsgroup discussions and
nothing specifically relates to ME - lots of XP advice. I am real
close to nuking the OS from orbit.

You should be happy that ME is not crashing and doing a reboot on you every
time a car or truck drove by that put out heavy frequencies. That all went
away, when I switched the wireless laptop over to Win2K and now it's XP.

I would check to see if the OS is putting the adapter to sleep from non-use!
