I bought the brand new MDA Vario (AKA i-mate K-Jam, Qtek 9100, SPV
M3000 etc..) at the weekend, having seen countless reviews citing
802.11g (and b) wireless networking capability. I run my home network
as 802.11g only rather than mixed b/g mode, since all my devices are
"g" capable.
The Vario will not connect to my network unless I permit "b" access.
It will see the "g" network, it knows it's secured, it supports
WPA-PSK encryption, which I am using, but it attempts to connect and
fails, simply ending up saying "Available" instead of "Connected".
I have tried downgrading security from WPA to WEP to nothing at all,
removed MAC address filtering, tried three different channels on the
router and even three different firmwares. It seems I can have any
combination of these and so long as the network supports "b" the Vario
will connect. But it flat refuses to connect to the "g" only network.
Yet "g" only is fine for my three laptops and the laptops of two
friends of mine so I can't see there being a problem with the router
(Netgear DG834G).
T-Mobile are not too good on this smartphone yet - it isn't even
listed on their website, but I bought mine in a T-Mobile shop and
their telesales team have them for sale too. Details on the i-nate
website here -
http://www.imate.com/DETAILS_KJAM.htm - clearly state
"g" compatibility, and since it sees my "g" network that would seem to
be true. But why can't I connect? Any ideas?
TIA,
Tim.
