I have a W2k3 Std Server, with 15 licenses ( standard not T/S ).
Server is AD DC - setup as file server only, Workstations are 2 - w2k, 10 -
wxppro,
2 win98 logged into domain but only used to surf the internet using
direct gateway through router not server, the 2 win98 systems and 2 of the
XP systems hardly ever get turned on.
no mapped drives and only one shared folder on the server.

I get intermittent connection problems stating that the maximum number of
connections has been reached.

When I open Licensing it shows of the 15 only a maximum of 6 have been used.

Is there any way to tell the number of active connections or logins to the
server ?
I have been unable to find a way to tell if there are duplicate connections
or connections that have been terminated etc..

Run *fsmgmt.msc* to monitor the connections.
Sounds like the server arrived with 5 CALs and was set in *Per Server* mode.

This is the same as going through Computer Management - Shared Folders

These connections never reach over 2 or 3, that is why I cannot tell how
many connections are running.

Server was initially a Per Server - 5 User then upgraded to 10 and then to 15.
When I open Licensing it shows Windows Server - Per Server - Number of
Licenses is 15.

This has only been a problem over the last week. Started on Monday 8-15 with
computers not being able to login on domain, errors stated computer account
was not setup, no connections available, or Maximum # of connections had been
reached for server try again Later. I finally seen where the systems had
performed a Windows update, I feel there was something in the update that
caused the login problems. I had to delete all computer accounts and add them
back into the server.
Even during this process I would intermittently get the error Maximum # of
connections had been reached for server try again Later, but every time I
could look at the computer management on the server and there would only be 2
or 3 systems connected. that is the reason I wanted to knowif there was
another way to see how many systems were connected or logged into a server.
