You could be 1km from the exchange as the vulture flies, but 10km in
wiring terms.
If your noise margin is only 4 then you have a pointer right there. 6 or
above is better, below that and instability/errors creep in. That would
trigger events which could cut your data rate down to compensate.

chances are you would just drag the problem with you to the next ISP if
it's a congested exchange. If you have demon downloading fourteen year
olds on the same DSLAM, sharing a 60Mbps cable between you, then that
won't make much difference.
remember that old nugget, CONTENTION? It is now a big hairy reality with
fangs and is biting hard.

could be. It depends on who and what kit they have installed. UKOnline
could end up congested beyond belief very soon as they are part of the
Easynet/Sky setup.
