MaxAttach NAS 3000 - No Disk - Any Porblems?

Hi,

Ive been offered a MaxAttach 3000 which will do me fine as a backup
server.

However it comes without the original hard drive and so no OS. Maxtor
doesn't have the original OS and I can't find any useful information
on this on the web.

Anyone have experience with these boxes and is it possible to put a
new HD in and get it up and running? Or is it more trouble than it is
worth?

(I think the original OS was freeBSD?)

Cheers.

Pete

After replacing Pete with a small shell script on Thursday 27 Oct 2005

You could try this:

http://www.hum.au.dk/it/wiemann/sstation/

This is the image for the Intel Storagestation, which is the same beast
bar a few minor differences (such as the Maxtor being able to handle four
drives which is a motherboard difference, not OS).

There's a little readme on there to tell you how to proceed, too. Notice
the hd(x) nomenclature which hints at a Linux environment used to dd
those images to drive 1. FreeBSD uses ad(x) for ATA disks.

Good luck with it.

Thanks for this info... Exactly what I needed.

It looks like getting this NAS back up and running with a new blank
disk will be a bit too complex for me as I'm not versed in Linux or
FreeBSD...

No loss as saves me some stress )

Cheers
