Hello Scott,

Are the machines domain members and is your DC also DNS server? Are the clients
registered in Forward and Reverse lookup zone?

Best regards

ping -a is just going to give you the computer name, if there's a reverse
DNS entry for it. Do you have a reverse lookup zone in your DNS? Are you
running AD-integrated DNS on your DC?

Why not use DHCP? I can't see any reason not to, in this day and age, even
on a small network. And it will help with DNS registration/updates.

Cant use DHCP, got a team of developers that need specific ports directed by
NAT to PCs for testing incoming packets.

Thanks

What's in it?
If you type ipconfig /registerdns in a client, does the host entry in the
forward-lookup zone get updated?
How about the reverse lookup zone?

On every single workstation? That sounds like a huge pain. But if it were
absolutely necessary, I would at least use DHCP reservations, & not statics.

Hello Scott,

Are the machines listed in the zones? Is the DHCP client service started
or disabled on that machines?

Best regards
